Position Title:            Housing Administrator (HA) Full time

Reporting to:             First Nations Administrator and/or Chief & Council (Portfolio)


In order to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the Housing Administrator position, the applicant should have the following qualifications;

  • Good “people” skills and good telephone manners

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Grade 12 education minimum

  • Administration/management, construction/housing and/or accounting education background

  • Be computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, mainly)

  • Driver’s License Class 5 and a reliable vehicle


Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government community members will be given preference over non-members of equal qualification. The position may be considered for developmental assignment provided that core skills are met.


Salary Range: $16.00/hour starting wage, but negotiable based on qualifications, and experience

Xeni Gwet'in Enterprise Manager



Position Title: Xeni Gwet’in Enterprise Manager

Nemiah Valley is located approximately 200km south west of Williams Lake, BC. Xeni Gwet’in Enterprise (XGE), is a proprietorship of the Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government (XGFNG), was originally established to manage infrastructure assets and construct new Capital Projects for the XGFNG. We now own and operate and maintain a fleet of heavy-duty construction equipment. We maintain 100km of public highway (gravel) and contract to private and government interest. We operate the First Nations Gas Station and Laundry Facilities. Most recently we have been involved in research and development projects involving alternate energy methods for developing electrical power for this off grid community.


Under the direction of the Chief and Council of the Xeni Gwet’in First Nations, the manager:

  • supervises the maintenance and repair of the community water and waste water facilities;

  • supervises the operations of the First Nations Gas Station and Laundromat

  • supervises the maintenance and repairs of the community roads and bridges;

  • supervises the maintenance and repairs of the community electrical supply and distribution system

  • supervises the maintenance of several Solar Hybrid electrical system installed on individual homes;

  • supervise the maintenance of the Community Broadband Internet;

  • supervises the maintenance and operation of the Enterprise’s construction machinery;

  • manages miscellaneous construction and maintenance contracts;

  • pursues the design and development of alternate electrical energy sources for the Xeni Gwet’in Community;

  • assumes the position of Capital Projects manager on behalf of the XGFNG

  • supervises the administration of the XGE accounts in liaison with XGE bookkeeper;

  • adhere to Xeni Gwet’in Enterprise Policy and direction of Chief and Council


Conditions of Employment


  1. Full time positions, 8am-5pm, Monday through Thursday; and as required

  2. Salary: commensurate upon qualifications and experience;

  • The candidate should have the equivalent of a diploma in Engineering technology with a strong administrative background;

  • Experience in working with Aboriginal Affairs Northern Development Canada (AANDC) capital programs and with First Nation community is a must;

  • The desire to live in a remote off-grid community is essential;

  • Good English communication; oral or written skills

  • The ability to take a leadership role in the administration of duties including the supervision of employees;

  • Computer skills; word, excel and powerpoint minimum;

Auxillary Rangers (2)



Position(s): 2 Auxiliary Rangers

Supervision: This position reports to the First Nations Administrator and the Land Rangers

The Auxiliary Rangers will assist with various aspects of monitoring and enforcement, environmental protection, customer service and information collection/sharing, which will enhance the governance of the Xeni Gwet’in/Tsilhqot’in Declared Title Area and every other land designation inside the Xeni Gwet’in Caretaker Area. The Auxiliary Rangers will be there to support the Land Rangers in their day to day work. This will also be in partnership with the BC Parks and serving as Park Ranger as well with the support of the Land Rangers.


  • Willing to learn and work with Land Rangers to train on the job.

  • Ability to work professionally under high stress circumstances. 

  • Willingness and ability to effectively deal with difficult or rude people/visitors.

  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally.

  • Willingness to maintain a positive and professional attitude and behaviour at all times.

  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and consistent information to the community members, the public, residents and businesses within Declared Title Area and Tsylos Park.

  • Familiar with the Xeni Gwet’in/Tsilhqot’in Declared Title Area and Tsylos Park.

  • Knowledge of Tsilhqot’in traditional values.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with other Rangers, the BC Parks staff and other enforcement agencies.

  • Ability and willingness to undertake physical labour.

  • Any firefighting training an asset

  • Driver’s License is a valuable asset (provide a copy with application)(Must Have)




Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Provide assistance and support to Land Rangers in the following areas;

  • Welcome visitors to the Declared Title Area of Tsilhqot’in people of Xeni Gwet’in and the Tsylos Park.

  • Inform visitors of local attractions, values, laws, and land use guidelines

  • Maintain a daily journal of activities and observations.

  • Assist with compliance monitoring according to Xeni Gwet’in land use guidelines, tourism agreements, Tsylos Park use and basic safety rules.

  • Assist with wildlife monitoring and alert Rangers of wildlife accidents, as well as hunting and fishing infractions

  • Provide manual labour and operate light equipment to maintain Declared Title structures, trails, roads and campsites, as well as within the Tsylos Park.

  • Assist with fire spotting and fire suppression under supervision, if necessary

  • Assist with the installation, monitoring and maintenance of remote digital cameras where necessary

  • Travel throughout the Declared Title Area and the Tsylos Park to carry out duties when required

  • Other tasks as required


Work Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions

  • Ability to work effectively outdoors

  • Ability to perform physical activities – trail clearing, mountain hiking, etc.

  • Willing to camp or live in rustic conditions for certain work rotations

  • Willing to work with a partner at all times for safety

  • May encounter rude/hostile visitors who may not wish to cooperate

  • Must sign on to the Ranger code of conduct

  • Use of drugs or alcohol while on duty is grounds for immediate dismissal

  • Must show up to work on time

  • May be required to work some weekends
